Halesford Harbour, LLC, consists of a small group of local investors who all have strong ties to Smith Mountain Lake and the surrounding community. We are businessmen and women who have a proven track record in successful marina, RV Park, recreational amenities and restaurant operations in the area.
Our vision for Halesford Harbour is to create a relaxing, scenic and enjoyable Resort that is affordable in today’s economy. It is our intent to make our guests feel so welcome that they will want to extend their stay in the area… maybe indefinitely!
Tom Buck (pictured right), General Manager of Halesford Harbour LLC, retired as a Navy Captain in the Supply Corps after a 23-year career. Tom, a native of Tidewater VA, followed up his Navy career as a successful Real Estate Broker, Developer, and former owner of Mitchell’s Point Marina at Smith Mountain Lake. Tom’s vision of what is currently SML’s newest and most modern RV Park is a proven showcase of success. Tom is an avid tennis player and boater.
Missy Dudley Buck (pictured left) has over 20 years experience in the recreation management industry, including State Park jobs in Virginia, New Hampshire and Alaska and locally with Botetourt County and 3 different area YMCAs. Missy was inducted in the JMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009 for her standout basketball career from 1985-1989. Missy has a M.Ed. in Recreation Management from Springfield College (MA). A native of Clifton Forge, VA, Missy has been a resident of Smith Mountain Lake since 1996. Missy first camped at SML with her Grandparents in the early 70’s, and learned how to ski, swim and navigate the lake at an early age. Missy loves tennis and her “happy campers”. Missy has two daughters, Madison and Bree Heft.
Melanie comes to Halesford Harbour Inn after working in the legal field for the last 12 years. Melanie grew up a military brat and lived all over the world, including Spain, Portugal and Montana before settling in Delaware in 1988. Melanie has three children, Alicia, Alex and Ashley, as well as two granddaughters, Zoe and Marlie. Melanie and her family began vacationing at Smith Mountain Lake in 2000 and fell in love with the laid back feeling the area had and decided to move down permanently in 2015. Melanie purchased her dream home, a circa 1908 Sears and Roebuck home (yes, they used to sell homes!), in 2017 and has been working on restoring it to it’s former glory. When she is not completing home repair projects, Melanie enjoys spending time on the water and with friends and family.
